Plant reproduction, population genetics and evolution

I amSHiPhone 001 a plant molecular ecologist with conservation and evolutionary foci. My early research (PhD and post-doc positions) assessed the genetic diversity and structure of rare or threatened species for conservation purposes; often this also included consideration of diversity at the self-incompatibility locus.

I now lead and collaborate in research that continues to include aspects of plant conservation, demography, ecology, reproduction and genetics in a diverse number of species.  I have a strong interest in studies involving the Proteaceae but also consider native species conservation more broadly along with weed biology. My research group use a variety of techniques including traditional field-based ecological approaches and morphological investigations of floral characters associated with differing pollinating guilds, as well as single gene studies associated with mate choice and massively parallel, next-generation sequencing.

In my teaching capacity, I am part of teams delivering material on Plant Diversity and Ecology, Animal-Plant Interactions, Endangered Species Conservation and Ecological Genetics & Evolution.
